Commercial Cloud Credits Retiring — Flex is the Future

Autodesk has announced a major change to the way customers access its cloud services. From 7 October 2025, Autodesk will retire Commercial Cloud Credits and move to a more modern, flexible model called Flex.

What is Flex?

Flex is Autodesk’s pay-as-you-go option, designed to give organisations more control and predictability when accessing Autodesk products. Instead of purchasing cloud credits, teams will use a shared pool of tokens to pay for usage across a wide range of Autodesk tools.

With Flex, you can:

  • Access more than 100 Autodesk products on demand

  • Use tokens across your whole team, rather than managing separate credit balances

  • Try out new tools without needing to commit to a full subscription

This shift makes it easier to scale usage up or down, depending on your project pipeline or team needs.

What Happens to Existing Cloud Credits?

If you currently have Commercial Cloud Credits, you have two options:

  1. Continue using your balance – Autodesk will allow credits to be used for up to one year after the transition date.

  2. Convert to Flex tokens – balances can be transferred into tokens, ensuring you can keep working without interruption.

This ensures that existing investments are not lost, but it also means planning ahead is important to avoid disruption.

Why the Change?

Autodesk’s move to Flex is about providing greater transparency and flexibility. Whereas cloud credits were often tied to specific services, Flex allows customers to allocate tokens wherever they are most needed.

For businesses, this means:

  • Simplified management – one token pool instead of separate credit accounts

  • Cost efficiency – only pay when you use the product

  • Future-ready access – Autodesk continues to expand the tools available within Flex

What This Means for CSS Clients

At Civil Survey Solutions, we see this as a positive step for our clients. Many firms are increasingly balancing long-term licences for core tools with flexible access for specialist products.

Flex provides:

  • A cost-effective way to explore tools like Autodesk Forma, Insight, or Rendering services without full subscriptions

  • An easy method to support project-based resourcing, where temporary access to certain products is needed

  • A unified approach to Autodesk’s cloud ecosystem that reduces admin and improves budgeting clarity

Next Steps

  • Review your current cloud credit balance and consider whether converting to tokens is the best route.

  • Evaluate your team’s workflow to identify where Flex could provide additional agility.

  • Speak with us at Civil Survey Solutions – we can guide you through the transition, helping you optimise token usage and ensure your Autodesk investment continues to deliver value.

Final Word

The retirement of cloud credits marks the end of one era and the beginning of a much more adaptable approach to Autodesk access. With Flex, organisations gain the freedom to use the right tool, at the right time, with complete cost transparency.
