Built for rapid design of features such as building pads, retaining walls and detention basins, the dynamic grading tools automatically clean up internal overlapping corners and include radial and mitre options on external corners. The surface and grading linework automatically updates as you edit your grading, so you get immediate feedback on the impact of your design changes, as you make them.
The new grading tools are to be further integrated into the current ARD road/string design tools:
enable picking polylines to set offsets for Codes on the cross sections
attach grading strings to other string cross sections for automatic internal corner trimming
enable direct conversion of cross section codes into Strings
The MegaTIN provides a quick and easy method for 'stacking' surfaces on top of each other.
You can extract cross sections and design on a MegaTIN, so automatically trim up your batters to a combined surface, and to get volumes to a combination of surfaces at once.
It's very simple - create a new MegaTIN and pick surfaces in order of precedence - first one in the list controls the elevations of the MegaTIN where it overlaps with other surfaces.
New road/string layer linework control
The Assign Layers command has been revamped. This command allows users to select the codes on a road that are to be displayed and also assign the colour and the AutoCAD Layer for each of these codes.
Users can setup a different configuration for auto draw lines, 2d polyline output, and also 3d polyline output.
Users now have the ability control when ARD loads and updates certain information. These settings are controlled in the Miscellaneous section of the Active Drawing Settings. (Advanced Settings).
'Do Not Update Kerbs Automatically' - If this option is turned on, then ARD will NOT re-calculate kerb returns automatically. This will increase the speed of the software, however users will need to force an update of the kerb returns when changes are made at an intersection.
'Load Road data ONLY when ARD command is run' - If this option is turned on, ARD will only load a road design project when an ARD command is used. This means that when the DWG is loaded, no ARD road linework or ARD surfaces will be initially displayed.
'Only update when VGE/Data form closes' - If this option is turned on, than ARD will only update road data when the VGE or the Design Data Form is closed. This means that users can make design changes without the software automatically updating data.
Model Builder Utilities
Using these tools, users can reset drawing transparencies (when changed by Model Builder), close Model Builder forms, and toggle on/off 'Always on top' for Model Builder forms. These utilities were created to address issues that some user were experiencing when using Model Builder.
The Raise/Lower Models command allows users to raise or lower an entire road network or pipe network vertical design.
Move Pipe Network
Advanced Road Design stores the coordinates of pipes and pits in a database file. This new command allows users to move their entire pipe network from one coordinate system to another.
Various Fixes and Improvements
-DATA folder creation. ARD will now only create a - DATA folder when an ARD command is run. A flag will be set in the DWG to specify when the drawing file is an ARD project. If the DWG is recognised as an ARD project, than ARD will create the -DATA folder. If you want to turn this off for a particular drawing (perhaps for your drawing template), than run the command - arduv7RemoveARDRunFlag
When using the 'Specify' option for cul-de-sac creation, the coordinate specify option has been fixed.
Issue displaying crossing pipes and pits in sections and profiles has been fixed
Height difference issue has been fixed in road section plotting
VGE adjusted so that open cross section views update dynamically if affected by VC editing
Grade Table has been fixed in the VC by Reference Line command
The adding of extra Civil3D surfaces to cross section has been fixed
The default text style and text height for CSS standard plot styles have been fixed.
Alignment calculation routine has been re-written to improve speed and remove flickering that was experienced by some users.
The 'Insufficient Points' message will now NOT display when rebuilding models where 'Total Model' does not exist. This message box would often be displayed on non-traditional road projects where only strings were used.
ARD now objects are now displayed as AutoCAD Block entities, rather than AutoCAD Point entities.
IP's added in the Vertical Grading Editor are now include in design models, such as Total Model. Extra sampling included at the location of vertical curves has now been fixed. The extra sampling rate for vertical curves for design models can be set in the Selected Sections dialog.
ARD V14.01 and Earlier - New Features
New Licensing System
We found some problems with the performance of the Reprise License Manager to various customers, particularly in a network environment. Depending on network configuration and controls, some customers experienced sporadic stoppages in the Reprise license manager.
We have moved from Reprise to Infralution - the Infralution licensing system allows for much greater control and management by Civil Survey Solutions, so we can more quickly and more directly address any issues that may arise. It's now far simpler to obtain a standalone license, and network license administration is more streamlined.
You will have a new Serial Number for this version, across all CAD platforms. If you haven't received yours, please contact the Subscription Co-ordinator.
Adding Extra Section Sampling On-The-Fly
It's always been a bit annoying when you're in the middle of modelling or applying an edit in the Design Data form, and you find that you want extra cross section sampling applied to the string. Because changes are applied at sampled cross sections, you need to add them.
Historically, you had to resample the road.
Well, we've added to the ribbon, menu and toolbar the ability to open a form and quickly add cross section sampling.
Recognising that you often want to do this in conjunction with design edits or modelling, we've also added this functionality to the Vertical Grading Editor, Design Data Form and Model Builder. Quickly add extra sampling, without shutting down what you're in the middle of.
Get Control of Auto Model and the Linework in the Drawing
Auto Model creates a trimmed surface of all your roads, kerb returns, cul-de-sacs, knuckles and roundabouts. But sometimes, you want to quickly omit certain road strings, or add extra strings such as wandering footpaths, retaining walls and car park strings.
Now you can - accessible from the Toggle Surface Display form is a new tab that allows you to include and exclude strings from the Auto Model surface.
ARD automatically draws all linework for all strings (and their cross sections) - with this new functionality added you can also tell ARD not to display linework for any strings you create.
Get the output you want - surface and linework - with minimum effort.
We've introduced a Drape Strings command for you to quickly convert your alignments into Strings, complete with an assigned template (if desired) and draped onto a surface. We support updating of all draped profiles from the Updated Draped Strings command.
Speed up creating design components that need to be draped on a surface.
Many designers just want to read the elevations/offsets of two codes on their design, and use this to set the slope to a design code.
Well, this is the variation for you! When you want to extend the design crossfall from a sawcut location out to your design left/right edge, this tool will work perfectly. No more using Road Matching Model, or creating a string and editing elevations.
You can even set a grade break to apply to the calculated slope.
**New command - Create String from 3D Polyline (BricsCAD and AutoCAD versions only) - turns a 3D polyline into an alignment and string, adopting the 3D polyline elevations
**New command - Set All Sump Levels. If you want to change all pit sumps to match the outgoing pipe invert, or you want to assign a sump to each pit, this command will apply a global change to all pit sumps. When you've got hundreds of pits, this is a real time saver.
**New command - Find Pit. Type in a pit name/label and zoom to it in the drawing
**New command - House Connection Report - Added a new function to output House Connection details to a comma delimited file - ready for opening directly in Excel
**New command - Open Data Folder - opens a form to quickly navigate to outputs and the data, such as plot drawing files, reports, the settings folder, etc
**New command - Edit Settings File - opens a form to allow quick opening of selected settings files for edit
**New command - Point file for COGO Point Import - built with Civil 3D in mind, this command will allow you to quickly pick codes and strings to setout and creates a file ready for import into Civil 3D. File is comma delimited and lists point number, easting, northing, elevation and description. Type arduv7c3dpoints at the command line to run this one
Fixed a plot issue displaying added Codes - was not able to edit the text size
Improved the pipes VGE to include colour highlight on the pipe slope when it goes outside the pipe min/max slope range
Updated multiple pipe slope button and located next to existing pipe slope button.
Updated corridor output for Civil 3D 2013 - correctly outputs subgrade shapes
Fixed a bug in the Delete Line tool for ARD Surfaces - if you snapped onto the corner of a triangle it would not resolve the deletion
Added additional setting controls in the Miscellaneous tab
Save setting: auto save a backup of your ARD data every x hours, and make a backup when you open a project
Turn on ARD alignment tracker
More control over widths of section linework displayed for strings.
Speed options - select to save surface data to file to speed up calculations, as required
MX Genio input/output has been enhanced and improved
Fixed a long section plot error resulting from showing cut/fill on a string that isn't designed for the full length of the alignment
Fixed an error generated when cul-de-sacs, kerb returns or knuckles were created and then the connecting codes of the road/s are removed
Various speed improvements made to road design
Fixed a speed issue showing a multitude of pipes on the road VGE window
Linework representing roads/strings from Total Model and other design models will now be produced automatically. The linework will also automatically update when changes are made to the design. The colour and linetype of the linework can be customised by the user and users can toggle the linework on/off in the new Toggle Surface Display command.
The new ARD Quick Surface is used to created dynamic design surface models that will automatically update when changes are made to the design.
The display of these surfaces can be controlled in the new Toggle Surface Display command and surface styles can be assigned using the new Create/Edit Surface command. The Create/Edit Surface command can be used to assign an analysis such as a slopes analysis to the surface.
Superseding the Model Manager and Build Models commands, Model Builder is a new tool that allows users to graphically stitch together a design model. The Model Builder command is an improved version of the Build Models command and the model being created/edited is displayed in model space, rather than in a dialog box. By default, an ARD Quick Surface is produced. This surface will automatically update when design changes are made.
The new Driveway Creation Tools allow users to design roads and other design features, and simultaneously check driveways for vertical clearance. Driveways can be easily defined using AutoCAD Polylines and vertical design checks are applied automatically when vertical changes to a road are made. Users have the ability create their own layback shape and also vehicle clearance templates.
The roundabout creation process has been simplified and streamlined as follows:
circular alignments are now supported - no need to have a small gap at the end (Civil 3D 2013 only)
in the Create Roundabouts form, there is a new button to auto populate the Roads and Kerb Returns that make up the intersection - one click button to establish the intersection details
the surface build process in the background has been streamlined and the 'Roundabout' surface will automatically update as design changes are made to the Road and/or Kerb Return Strings - users will only need to edit the central island to enforce an update of the roundabout intersection
In the Vertical Grading Editor, the software will detect alignments that are closed (within a gap tolerance) and the start and end IP elevations will be automatically set to match on another (so, moving the first IP up/down will automatically reset the last IP levels to match)
Superseding the existing Setout command, the new Multi Setout command allows users to setout multiple roads or strings using a setout style. A setout style can be created by the user and is setup to define what features of the road/string are to be setout, how the point data is displayed, and how the information is to be reported.
