AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 has been released and is shipping to customers now!! This release builds on the success of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2011 and includes many new exciting features and benefits over previous releases.
We are touring 14 cities across Australia with an AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 Technology Day!
** For Advanced Road Design customers, stay tuned for notification of the ARD 2012 release for Civil 3D 2012 **
New Features and Benefits - in Summary
Style and Settings Management
Bulk copy styles from another drawing
Options to delete style from current drawing
Find styles in use
The new Style and Settings Management tools in Civil 3D 2012 give CAD managers and end users the power to copy styles and settings from a corporate template or 'template rich' drawing, replace them in drawings and even purge unwanted styles or help find where styles are in use. In addition to help matching corporate standards, these tools may be useful when working with outside contractors.
Maximum text width
Two new features make labelling your model just a little bit easier. Labels can now be rotated independent of their marker to account for overwriting issues or aesthetic preferences. Also, a value for maximum label width will force a text wrap if the label contents are too wide.
Alignment Geometry Improvements
Better handle alignment tangent and curve constraints
LandXML import includes constraints
Navigate more easily with entity highlighting
Check for tangency
New annotation options
Civil 3D 2012 includes a variety of improvements to road geometry creation. New alignment tools including alignment constraint swapping, alignment LandXML import enhancements, and entity highlighting make it easier to edit and navigate your design. Annotation improvements, such as additional alignment labels and more flexible profile band styles, help make it easier to follow standards for your design documentation.
Enhanced model performance with Surface Level of Detail
Improve drawing memory usage
Analyze volumes with interval based methods
Elevation banding styles with built-in intervals
New datum parameter
Terrain models are a critical piece of the civil engineering workflow for any project. Civil 3D 2012 brings improvement to the large surface workflow with the ability to control surface level of detail. Zoom out, and your surface shows you less detail. Zoom in, and you see more information. Another enhancement is an improvement to surface volume analysis display. New tools provided automated methods to display surface volume bands in meaningful ways.
Visualizing Civil Designs
Built in Autodesk Civil View Exporter
Autodesk Civil View exporter, an export utility for Autodesk® 3ds Max® Design 2012 is installed with Civil 3D 2012 and is accessible from the Civil 3D user interface. 3ds Max Design can be used to create near photorealistic rendering and animations that tell the story behind designs at various stages of the process. Dynamically link to data, evaluate designs and communicate project intent with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Edit corridors more easily within Cross Section Editor
Insert an assembly from the Tool Palette
Set or change targets
Use multiple corridors for sections and volumes
Sample skewed or angled sections
The corridor editing process has been improved to include additional options such as changing the assembly and adjusting targets for a region in Cross Section Editor; adjusting subassembly parameters using grip editing tools; and a visual station tracker that works in plan, profile and section.
Improved corridor functionality also includes the ability to sample multiple baselines of a corridor, or even multiple corridors in the Cross Section Editor and cross section views.
Axis of rotation location
Parameters for maximum shoulder roll over
Users can now specify an axis of rotation location, simplifying the way subassemblies use superelevation information. An added parameter to specify the maximum shoulder roll over rate has also been added to the stored superelevation for the alignment.
Import GIS data to create Civil 3D Pipe Networks
New catchment tools to delineate watersheds and time of concentration
Use more of your Civil 3D model within Autodesk® Storm and Sanitary Analysis 2012
Build more intelligence into your model with the Autodesk Connection Points
Extend the value of sanitary and water network data available in SHP format by intelligently importing this pipe data into Civil 3D 2012 as a Civil 3D pipe network.
Combined with our existing surface analysis tools, the new catchment area object improves the stormwater analysis workflow. Additionally, these objects are leveraged in Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis with an export tool built right into the Civil 3D user interface.
Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis is included with Civil 3D 2012. New export tools have been built into the Civil 3D user interface, including import of the Civil 3D drawing as a background in Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis.
The Autodesk Connection Point allows pipe connection data to be shared between several Autodesk applications, such as AutoCAD® Plant 3D 2012 and AutoCAD Civil 3D. This gives you better tools to help keep those multidiscipline models coordinated.
Integration with Autodesk Vault Collaboration AEC 2012
Purpose-Built Civil 3D object management
Multidiscipline project team support
Integration with Sheet Set Manager
Autodesk® Vault Collaboration AEC 2012 software is tightly integrated with AutoCAD Civil 3D and other Autodesk design applications. Deep integration can help streamline data management associated with civil engineering or multidiscipline projects—from planning through design and construction—and can help save time and improve data accuracy.
Civil engineers need solid tools for sharing AutoCAD Civil 3D elements between team members. Autodesk Vault Collaboration AEC has purpose-built data management tools for managing point, terrain, alignment, profile, and pipe information among Civil 3D users. This offers the team more control and flexibility for building the project model and producing final construction deliverables.
Vault Collaboration AEC now features Sheet Set Manager integration as well.
